I believe in paying it forward. Life can be cruel and harsh but there are those moments when great deeds and unexpected gestures come out of nowhere. The random acts of kindness shown by a stranger can have a profound impact on someone’s life. I can attest to this truth and the emotion of paying it forward.
My father and mother always taught me to help others and give back in any way I could. They instilled in me what the kindness of giving truly meant. Growing up, I would watch my parents struggle with day-to-day bills; yet give their last dollar to a stranger on the street. They believed they were blessed with what they had, and wanted to take their blessing and give to someone else. It wasn’t just by helping financially, but also by sharing their time and lending a hand. They may not have been the richest couple, but they were rich in love for others.
One day I met this wonderful man who made my heart melt, it was love at first sight. He had all of the qualities I liked in a guy: tall, dark and handsome. But more importantly were his heart and values. He has a heart to help and serve others, the same quality my parents have. He asked for my hand in marriage and of course I said YES! Everyone knows that weddings aren’t cheap. Not only was I going to be marrying my best friend, but I was also applying to Dental Hygiene school. As you can imagine, finances were extremely tight. The last couple of weeks before our wedding, our finances roared its ugly head. Out of nowhere, my parents blessed us with the finances to cover our needs. They told us they had been blessed and wanted to help us in a way that we would always remember. There was only one stipulation; we had to one day bless someone else and pay it forward. This act of generosity and love was so unexpected, but meant the world to us.
We must all carry our blessings and pay it forward. Whether it is by blessing someone financially or just lending a hand, our actions can change the course of someone’s life. In today’s society kindness goes unseen. To make a difference, you have to be the difference. Lets pay it forward to the future generations.
