I believe in wearing Tie-dye. I believe in living each day with life and color, feeling comfortable enough to stand out, and comfortable enough to take on new challenges.
Personally, I have a whole collection of Tye-dye shirts. I have one in Pink tones, one in a hot swirl, one in superman ice cream colors, one in a V pattern. I have tie-dyed shorts and towels and socks. Tie-dye is a creative way to take all your old dingy white shirts and make them new again! You can try crazy colors just to see how they work. There is no right or wrong way to do it, and there are no two tie-dyes the same. They are a unique testament to the fact that no human being is mistake, no human being is the same.
When I wear tie-dye I remember what it feels like to be a child. I remember questioning the world, being fascinated by what would seem to others as simple things. I would share this feeling of passion and wonder with all those around me, not caring if they shared my curiosities. Wearing tie-dye helps me remember to do these things even as an adult, because through sharing my joys and excitement for things I learn, I unconsciously give others permission to do the same.
Tie-dye shirts are colorful and mind boggling, so you don’t need to worry about staining your shirt. You can jump into a task (like cleaning out the methyl-blue barnes bottles in the biology lab) without thinking twice. You can jump into a game of Ultimate after lab without thinking of the repercussions. You can just play! You can live and move and explore without worrying about your appearance.
Wearing a tie-dye shirt undoubtedly is not the norm these days. You will stand out and wow people with the intensity of your shirt. Thus the shirt can be a reminder that you can do the same with your personality. If you are different from others, or don’t feel like you fit in with the college norms, remember your tie-dye shirt. You can make a statement too, by just being you! You can wow people with your authenticity and commitment to who you are as an individual.
So, break out of the norm-wear your tie-dye and remember what its like to be child. Be true to yourself and who you are. Take experiences as they come, and jump in to new opportunities. Don’t let them pass you by.
